About the Club woodturning boxmaking toymaking timber australian woodworking club boxes turning

Woodturners of the Hunter Co-operative Ltd is a hobby club, formed in 1983 to foster the art of woodturning in the Hunter Area. What began as a small group has steadily grown to have a membership of over 260. The members have a wide range of interests, including the making of boxes, fine furniture, grandfather clocks and general joinery as well as woodturning.

The Co-op meets at 7 pm on the first Tuesday of each month, with “hands on” on the third Tuesday of each month, at the Woodworking and Craft Centre, Newcastle Showground. (No meetings are held in January). These nights include demonstrations and workshop activities and provide an avenue for members to further develop their skills and knowledge. The Craft Centre is open on Tuesday and Saturday mornings and Thursday afternoons, giving the members the opportunity to use the Co-op’s extensive workshop. Workshop training days are held regularly as well as demonstrations featuring both local and visiting crafts people and have proved very popular with members.

The Co-operative‘s library contains a large number of books, magazines and videos & DVD's covering a wide range of woodworking subjects. Members have free use of this facility. “TURNABOUT”, The Co-ops newsletter, is distributed to members every month except January and contains both technical and general information for members. It is also exchanged with a number of other clubs who send their newsletters for the information of members. Please Click here if you would like to download the current issue of Turnabout.

Visitors Welcome.

Top Turnfest Tournament on Tuesday

Instead of the normal demonstration at the 17th May Hands-on we will be having top turning competition with prizes for the best decorated tops, most tops, longest spinning time top etc, or any other attribute that might be suggested on the night.
Start time will be 6.00 pm so all members should be there with freshly sharpened tools ready to start at this time.
Timber will be supplied.
Members are asked not to be shy turn up and join in the fun.
Hopefully this will assist in reducing the mad rush as we had prior to the last show.
