Woodturners of the Hunter Co-operative Ltd is a hobby club, formed in 1983 to foster the art of woodturning in the Hunter Area. What began as a small group has steadily grown to have a membership of over 200. The members have a wide range of interests, including the making of boxes, fine furniture, grandfather clocks and general joinery as well as woodturning.
The Co-op meets at 7 pm on the first Tuesday of each month at the Woodworking and Craft Centre, Newcastle Showground. (No meetings are held in January). These nights include demonstrations and workshop activities and provide an avenue for members to further develop their skills and knowledge. The Craft Centre is open many days of the week with a range of activities giving members the opportunity to use the Co-op’s extensive workshop. Workshop training days are held regularly as well as demonstrations featuring both local and visiting crafts people and have proved very popular with members.
The Co-operative‘s library contains a large number of books, magazines and videos & DVD's covering a wide range of woodworking subjects. Members have free use of this facility. “TURNABOUT”, The Co-ops newsletter, is distributed to members every month except January and contains both technical and general information for members. It is also exchanged with a number of other clubs who send their newsletters for the information of members. Please click here if you would like to download the current issue of Turnabout.
The Club has a variety of timbers for sale which includes some Tasmanian and local timber.
We can slab or cut to your requirements. Come and talk to Des on Saturdays or Sunday Farmers Markets or the Newcastle Show, or drop by to the clubhouse on a Saturday and have a chat to Des or one of our other members.
Bring along any sketches of your project or rough sizes of timber that you need and talk to us and we will do our best to help you out with the timber you need at a great price.
